They arrived seeking safety. What came next took years. An education. A calling. .A chance to belong.

Today, they are graduates, first responders, and young leaders shaping the communities that once welcomed them. This is the long story of refuge: not just where someone begins, but what they become.

Humanitarian Stories of

Resilience and Lasting Impact

25@25: Refugees Making A Difference is a digital documentary produced by Albanian-Canadian journalist and advocate Arta Rexhepi. Commemorating 25 years since Canada’s humanitarian response to the Kosovo refugee crisis, the project documents the long-term social, economic, and cultural contributions of Kosovo refugees who rebuilt their lives in Canada. Through interviews and archival storytelling, the documentary examines how humanitarian protection leads to measurable community impact. By reframing refugees as contributors, leaders, and innovators, the project challenges deficit-based narratives and promotes understanding of refugee resettlement outcomes.  At 25@25, we believe that the true measure of humanitarian protection is found in the lives rebuilt and the communities transformed.

“25@25 is supported by Artistè Foundation and its dedicated team, bringing together 25 unique and powerful human stories that highlight diverse experiences.”  As 'Operation Parasol' marked 25 years, we follow 25 stories of Kosovo refugees who have made an outstanding contribution in Canada.
